Merry Christmas!!

We had a very fun Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. After dinner on Christmas Eve they got to open one present. It was their pj's! So cute! Then we talked about the reason we celebrate Christmas, everyone drew their version of the 1st Christmas, we watched a Christmas movie and had yummy treats, and then we put out the stockings and cookies for Santa. The kids went to bed nicely in anticipation for Christmas! (If only they would have slept all night...)

December Madness!!

I haven't posted any random pictures for awhile and since I have nothing else to do I thought I'd geturdun. There's nothing sweeter than this!
Except, maybe this!

Christmas with Michael!

Yesterday afternoon my sister, Nancy and I got together with our brother Michael and celebrated his Christmas early. We took him out for ice cream at Coldstone where he thoroughly enjoyed a Cookie Minster (and some of mine too!) While we were there he even got to listen to one of his favorite songs from the Lion King playing over the resturant speakers! Then he got to open his presents. Mom and Dad had sent his packages and he had 4 to open. If anyone asked Michael what he wanted for Christmas he would say "Finding Nemo." Well, he opened all his presents and was excited about each one, but none were "Nemo." When he was done opening those he politely asked, "So, are there any more?" Then we pulled out his stocking (Santa came early just for Michael!) and he pulled out a package and opened it.

Our adventure

Last night a little before 8:00 the whole family (minus Joe) was downstairs in the toyroom playing. The 3 older kids were playing baseball on the Wii and the 3 little ones were just playing with toys on the floor. I had just told the kids they had 5 more minutes until jammie time when all of the sudden the power shut off (a power substation in Rigby blew up and 4 counties were out of power, we had no idea how long the pwer would be out). Since we were in the basement it was pitch dark. I am very scared of the dark, I get all panicky and my heart rate increases and I start sweating. Well, the kids are all freaking out, we even lost Penny for a few minutes but were able to locate her by using a toy computer that lights up. In my forced calm I told the kids to stay put around the toy computer and I would go get some flashlights. With the help of my cell phone, with Penny in tow, I went in search of some light. The flashlight I keep by my bed (in case of emergencies) was nowhere to be found. I'm guessing a pair of little hands took off with it. At this point I can't really think straight but a thought popped into my head to look in the diaper basket on the couch.

The Platypus!!

Over the past couple of weeks Eliza has been very interested in platypuses. She asked to research them on the computer and has been talking about all their fascinating characteristics. I was helping her look up some information and they are really kind of creepy if you think about it. Here are some interesting facts:

1. The platypus is found in Australia mainly in Tasmania.

2. They are the only mammal to lay eggs instead of live babies.

3. They are duckbilled, have webbed feet (the webs actually fold back on the front feet when walking on land), have a beaver-like tail, and are semi-aquatic.

4. The male platypus has a venomous spur behind the hind feet. Yikes! There are very few mammals that have venom.

Haeberle "Top 10" 2009:

(Here's our Christmas letter this year. If you already got it, this is more for my journal than anything!)
10.
After living in a poorly sided (4 year old) house for 4 years we decided to give our house a face lift. We went from boring tan to exciting brick red and we love it! Great job Joe!
9.
In April Joseph cut back on his many jobs and is now working only 2 jobs. He's full time as a Paramedic/Firefighter for Rexburg and working for Air Idaho Rescue in Idaho Falls as a Flight Medic. We love having him home more!
8.
Dallin turned 8 this year and made the choice to be baptized. He has been a great example to his younger siblings and is working hard to make right choices.
7.
We've been in the process of getting Matthew potty trained for over a year and finally, finally, finally he is both day and night trained! Hallelujah!!
6.
After watching his older brother and sister go off to school, Andrew finally got his turn. He started kindergarten this fall and has really enjoyed it!

Christmas pictures

Christmas Piano Recital

Dallin and Eliza had their Christmas recital this week and they did awesome. I didn't get very much footage because our camera battery was low. Here they are afterwards. They each played their separate songs (Dallin played "Angels We Have Heard on High" & "Jingle Bells" Eliza played "Silent Night" and "Jolly old Saint Nick") and then had a duet together. Here they are playing "Pat-a-Pan."

Family Pictures 2009

We had our annual family picture taken and I finally decided to post them. I only picked some of my favorites. We had so many great pictures! The kids cooperated tremendously and we had fun getting them taken.

Teeth!

About a week ago I noticed that Andrew had some permanent teeth growing in behind his baby teeth. When I asked him why he didn't tell me he had new teeth he told me he didn't know they were there. I guess teething doesn't faze him! So, today he went to the dentist got 2 baby teeth extracted. He was brave and didn't even cry at all. Here are his teeth, you can't see the big teeth huh?!Here they are, almost all grown in!Andrew's new smile!

Project: Christmas Tree

Eliza brought home this tree from school today and was instructed to decorate it for the 2nd grade hall of trees. She wanted to do hers all pink, so we made some snowflakes, added some ribbon and a star on top, and voila!

Dear Santa...

Tonight the kids made notes for Santa. Here's Eliza's. I thought it was so cute. I love the picture of Santa the best!

O Christmas Tree...

On Saturday we got out the decorations and trimmed the ol' tree. I was very excited with how it turned out this year. I had a vision and it actually materialized! Usually the kids cluster all the ornaments together on one branch but this year they did a great job and I only had to move a few ornaments here and there.

Hair cut!

Both Eliza and I were getting tired of brushing out all the tangles in her long hair. Tonight we remedied the problem and cut her hair off. I had mixed emotions while cutting it. It was so long and fun to fix but also it was really hard to brush out the knots. Now its nice and easy! Here's the before pictures. I had just brushed it out from being in a braid so its kind of crazy. Here she is cute, manageable hair!

Andrew's 6th Birthday!!

Today we celebrated Andrew's 6th birthday! A few months ago I decided to do a themed party for Andrew because I felt like in the past he has suffered from the middle child syndrome. So, I didn't want to just bake a cake and call it good. Andrew is our resident cowboy and so that was our theme. First everyone got dressed in their best duds and came to our roundup. Here's Andrew with Duke, the cowboy and his horse, Sassafrass. All the kids (minus Penny, she hated her hat.)Ma and Pa.

I hope they call me on a mission!

Last night for Family Night Dallin taught the lesson. He wanted to teach us about missionary work. He got dressed as a missionary and then taught us from the scriptures. I guess we got a glimpse of the future. I hope and pray my children will grow up with a desire to serve the Lord and gain a testimony of the gospel. Dallin did a great job and we even got to hear some stories from Joe's mission. It's hard to believe that's my son!

Happy Birthday Matthew!

Today our little Matthew turned 4 years old!! It seems like yesterday that he was the baby of the family. Wow, time just keeps zipping by! I asked Matthew what he wanted to do for his big day and without even thinking he said, "I want to go to Applebee's!" (I'm not sure why he picked this, our family has only been there once before!) So, he got his wish, here he is at Applebee's! Ironically he only ate about 5 french fries and said he wasn't hungry anymore!Present time!Ice Age 3!

Fireman's Ball!

Joe asked me to go to the Fireman's Ball in Idaho Falls and I accepted! I got to get a new dress (and shoes!) and Joe got to get all fancied up in his dress uniform. Here we are all ready to go out.The ball is put on by the Idaho Falls Pipes and Drums and they played a few songs for our enjoyment.

Trick-or-Treat

This year we got to spend Halloween with my sister Sarah and her family in Boise! It was a lot of fun to dress up and go trick-or-treating. My sister and I dressed up as hotties from the 70's. Don't be a hater!Staying Alive!!

My mom even dressed up as an Amish lady. This is the 2nd time I remember seeing her ever dress up for Halloween.Penny our little sock monkey.

Too cute for words!
