I Am Glad for Many Things

Inspired by other friends' blogs, I wanted to put together a list of things I'm thankful for. In no particular order, let the blessing-counting begin!

1. My husband. I knew I loved Vernon when I married him, but I didn't know how much I could love him. Every year is better!

2. My kids. We have our days when we don't get along, but the cliche is true: mothering is the hardest and the best thing you can do! I laugh more with my kids than I do with anyone else.

3. Baby wipes. Totally indispensable!

4. The internet. Using my computer, I can keep up with friends and family from one coast (shout out to James & Rachel) to the other (yay for all us west-coasters!).

5. Blocks. Wood blocks, Legos, big, small, doesn't matter. We love building tall towers.

6. Good friends, past and present.

7. Kleenex. We just finished a month-long round of colds, and I learned a new appreciation for this humble product.

8. Cute shoes. I need some new ones, by the way. Christmas present, anyone? :)

9. Good books. I've been on a travel-writing kick for a while now. If you haven't read Bill Bryson's books, I highly recommend, "In a Sunburned Country." You're in for a laugh!

10. Mountains. Amen, Brekke!

11. Glad Press-and-Seal Wrap. It sticks to paper plates, people!

12. MythTv. It's a TiVo-like system that you can get for almost-free. Three cheers for time-shifted television. Sesame Street anytime you want it, and NO MORE COMMERCIALS! EVER!!!

13. Homemade bread. I am ever lucky on this one. I have never been able to master my mom's homemade wheat bread (best bread ever for toast), but thankfully, my husband is the consummate engineer and had to keep testing versions till he figured out one that worked. Yes, ladies, he can bake!

14. My paper cutter. I'm not a professional scrapbooker or card maker or anything, but when I dabble, this thing saves hours of work.

15. Chocolate. And lots of it!

16. Music. What would life be without it? Sure, there are downsides of having the world know you can sing/play piano/direct (can you say last-minute musical number, anyone?), but the joy of making and listening to music is entirely worth it. I'm completely jealous of my mom and sister, who get to see the Kings' Singers with the Tab Choir this Christmas. ARGH.

17. Warm baths. Nothing like soaking in the tub with a good book to read and good chocolate to snack on. This luxury doesn't happen often, but I take it when I can get it. :)

18. Hot showers. I'm so spoiled -- I'll stay in the shower for WAY too long, enjoying the water massaging my head. Mmmm....

19. Disposable diapers. 'Nuf said.

20. Newspapers. Old-school newsprint. I love awkwardly turning the huge pages, struggling to finish the crossword, and the mad rush for the Sunday comics.

Well, twenty seems like a good, round number to end on. There are many, many other things that could make this list, but my blood sugar must be low, because I can't think of them right now. :) May we always be grateful for the large and small things that make life sweet.
